HCM Workforce: Infotypes have gone, Apps are in (the new world for S/4HANA Cloud)
- SAP
- SuccessFactors
For decades, the integration of employee information between SAP HR systems and SAP ERP was built on a familiar foundation: infotypes. The end destination was often the same - the familiar light blue screens with familiar tables and HR mini‑master designed primarily to serve downstream processes.
With SAP S/4HANA Cloud public edition, this model has been fundamentally redesigned.
S/4HANA Cloud SAP has moved away from heavily customised SAP infotypes to the S/4HANA Worker App. This transformation enables a standardised, user-centric approach to workforce data management, simplifying processes, reducing technical complexity, and supporting a more agile digital core.
This transformation can lead to:
Simpler and faster implementations
Users seeing the essential HCM information for the downstream processes they perform.
Reduced effort and complexity for ongoing support
In addition, this change will simplify the flow of information from core HCM systems, such as SuccessFactors, into the S/4HANA public cloud. The new clean core solution enables standardised, API-driven integration between the HCM system and S/4HANA Cloud, ensuring consistent, scalable data exchange without the need for complex custom interfaces.
For those interested in this new solution, please see below a taster of the key transitions you will find as you move into the new S/4HANA App world:
Employee and contingent workers are now known as Workers and are found together in common Apps.
The new Apps have more modern intuitive names such as Manage My Timesheet and Manage Workforce
The HCM Apps are designed to align with key S/4HANA Cloud solutions, such as Finance, Procurement, and Project systems
There is a clear separation between HR ownership (SuccessFactors) and the consumption of HR data for the S/4HANA processes (S/4HANA). Most HR data that is passed from SuccessFactors becomes display only in S/4HANA Cloud. This helps to ensure that there is a single source of the truth.
The storage of HR data in S/4HANA Cloud is minimised (compared to infotypes) and designed to store the Worker information that is required to be consumed by the S/4HANA processes. This creates a simplified Worker record and aligns with the principles of employee data collection in many countries
These new changes help to bring us into a modern world with a new solution that is designed to enable your business with business orientated solutions, clear data ownership and clear upgrade paths for the future.
