Farewell ECC6 - Its time to start planning your move to S/4HANA!

Sep 07, 2022

Dave Bennett, Head of Development, Data and Analytics at Delaware UK, has recently been published in the UKISUG's September 2022 Newsletter, discussing S/4HANA Move. Keep reading to find out about the migration approaches available for your business and the steps you should take to ensure that you are prepared for 2027.

When you’ve invested heavily in your SAP platform it can be a daunting task to start again with a new implementation.  However, there are multiple ways you can move to S/4HANA and realise the benefits without significantly disrupting your business. There isn’t a “one size fits all” approach but just a small number of key factors influence the selection of the right option for you.

Firstly, it is important to assess how well the existing solution is meeting your requirements. If your solution is stable, is allowing you to run and grow your business and the main driver for moving to S/4HANA is the end of ECC support in 2027, an upgrade could be the best option.

However, if you have outgrown your SAP systems or your business model has changed then a new, clean, S/4HANA system might be the right option for you. A new implementation will typically take longer than other options but will deliver a solution that is designed for you, without any technical debt.

Other factors to consider include how to manage customised solutions that are unique and add value to your business, and the quality and volume of your data.

Demand for SAP resources will increase as the 2027 deadline approaches. You don’t need to start a new implementation tomorrow, but we recommend you start looking at your options, choose the right path for you and develop a plan as soon as possible to avoid a last-minute rush.
