Novares is a global supplier of plastics solutions and complex components for the automotive industry. The company is established in 23 countries, has 43 production plants, 8 centres of excellence, 10 technical centres and 22 customer service centres. It employees 12,000 people globally.

The challenge

Following the decision of their host provider to close data centres, Novares needed to significantly reduce its operating costs and simplify its technical landscape, therefore decided to move to the cloud. The OEM sought an efficient, flexible and secure infrastructure platform that would allow them to optimise costs, boost performance and ensure worldwide connectivity and stability across its IT landscape.

Microsoft Azure was selected as the best public cloud platform for SAP applications. Not only was SAP and Microsoft’s 20+ year partnering relationship a key driving influence, but the depth of trust and maturity in SAP on Azure use and implementations across the globe was an important factor for Novares. Microsoft Azure is also the cloud platform of choice for Delaware: every single customer implementation is hosted on Microsoft Azure.

Novares also wanted to reap the benefits of Microsoft Azure’s security and compliance credentials to ensure the security of its ERP environment.

Our approach

One of the greatest challenges was to move the entire technical architecture onto the cloud-servicing platform with minimal downtime, due to the business-critical nature of SAP. To meet this challenge, Delaware deployed the expertise of its infrastructure teams, combined with the market’s best technologies, to deliver this rapid migration.

Delaware and Novares designed a migration strategy that covered all risks, including the security of the new platform, performance, switchover time and data integrity. Delaware’s expertise enabled them to build an innovative approach to meet the challenges and propose a realistic migration scenario with minimal risk.

Delaware leveraged its in-depth expertise in cloud computing and its knowledge of Microsoft’s migration solutions (Azure Site Recovery) to transfer the legacy applications needed by the interfaces of Novares’ SAP applications, without any hindrances and with minimal business disruption.

Business benefits

Delaware had completed the migration of Novares’ production systems to Microsoft Azure entirely remotely in less than siz months. Novares now has a secure, flexible and modernised ERP system.

The first set of results exceeded the client’s expectations, as the manufacturer reported improved efficiency and performance. They have also achieved a reduction in IT costs from gaining performance in response time for certain transactions.

Novares was able to meet its business objectives in regards to the complete modernisation of its ERP system and overall cloud strategy.
